The Russian-born tennis veteran, 35, and the former AFL player, 34, seemed surprisingly calm as they sat together at a table to inform their fans that their nine-year marriage had come to an end.

As Ty held a half-eaten banana in his hand, Arina took the lead by revealing that the couple had been “separated for about a year” before deciding to divorce.

‘Hey guys, we have a quick announcement to make. We’re getting divorced. We’ve been separated for about a year,’ Arina began in the video.

‘Friends and family know this, but we just wanted to inform the community at large about this situation. Thank you.’

Ty, who had remained silent until then, added, “We’re good.” We get along well and wish each other the best. Thanks for the support.’

Arina then tried to end the video by giving Ty an awkward handshake, but he placed his half-eaten banana in her hand.

The former national number one, who has since left the country following her Australian Open campaign, captioned the video with a broken heart emoji.

‘Life happens. “We love each other a lot, but sometimes it’s not enough,” he wrote.

Hours after posting the video to her grid, Arina took to her Instagram Stories with a photo of herself on a flight out of Sydney.

“Goodbye Australia, I will always love you,” he wrote.

‘You too should be so grateful that I went through the breakup without posting a million inspirational quotes on Insta. You are welcome.’

Arina and Ty married in December 2015, just hours after she made it to the semifinals at the Australian Open wild-card qualifying tournament.

She beat Storm Sanders 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a morning match in Melbourne at 11:10 a.m. before walking down the aisle less than five hours later at 4 p.m.

The tennis star, who celebrated her 26th birthday a few days earlier, would return to the court the next day at 12:30 p.m.

She played the final against Maddison Inglis, losing her place in the main draw 6-4, 6-2.

“Today was a good day for everyone,” Arina said on her wedding day after the game against Storm.

‘I have a few hours to get ready to marry the most amazing guy who ever lived and I’m looking forward to it.

“It was really difficult to play today mentally. Obviously I have the wedding on my mind.

Ty was absent from Arina’s semi-final and told family and friends that, according to tradition, he should not see his bride-to-be until the wedding service.

The couple hadn’t scheduled a honeymoon because Ty was in pre-season training with his Richmond Australian Football League team.

Arina was also preparing for the Australian Open and her warm-up tournament schedule at the time.

The wild card semi-final was originally scheduled for the afternoon of their wedding.

However, with some help from the organizers and Storm’s agreement, it was moved to 9am so Arina could marry Ty that afternoon.
