A tennis star who reportedly quit the sport to pursue lingerie modeling is said to have fled Italy for the United States.

The recently retired tennis star, who reportedly quit to pursue modeling and fashion design, has been accused of failing to pay six months’ rent and stealing valuable furniture from the Florentine villa where she lived until three months ago.

Camila Giorgi quietly announced her retirement from tennis earlier this month amid rumors that the WTA had been unable to contact her for the previous two months.

The 32-year-old, who last played at March’s Miami Open against world number one Iga Swiatek, officially announced her retirement last week.

But before his public statement, Giorgi was reported to have fled to the United States from his native Italy in an attempt to evade Italian tax authorities.

The former world number 26 is now said to have removed “half the furniture” from the rented villa in Calenzano, near Florence, by its aggrieved former owner.

According to La Repubblica, via Corriere della Serrathis included a number of expensive items, such as antique rugs and tables.

Not only did they leave without saying anything with six months of unpaid rent,” the villa’s owner told the Italian media, “but they made half of our furniture disappear.

‘Persian rugs, fine furniture, even a half-ton antique table. We are talking about damages of between 50,000 and 100,000 euros.’

The owner alleges that they were talking to Giorgi’s father, Sergio, and added that he had treated their concerns with “contempt.”

‘I wrote to him that they should at least give us back our things, he responded in a derogatory manner saying that they were objects of little value,’ added the owner.

‘Hateful behavior, for those like me who have suffered economic but also emotional damage.

‘I can’t know how much is true or how much Camila owes the State, but I know what she owes us.

“These objects are part of my mother’s life and mine: I want them back, at least up to this point, taking into account that we have lost hope due to the thousands and thousands of euros of back rent.”

Neighbors reportedly saw removal vans at the property and alerted the owner, who arrived at the villa to discover that the house had almost been ransacked.

“When I arrived there was no one and the house was half empty,” they continued. «In the garden, however, there was other furniture and rugs piled on top of each other.

The former world number 26 has also been involved in controversy over her vaccination status.

“They had probably already filled the trucks and didn’t know where to put them anymore.”

Giorgi has previously come under fire after facing allegations that she used a fake Covid vaccination certificate to enter the Australian Open in 2022, which she and her father angrily denied.

However, the star will reportedly appear before an investigating judge in Vicenza on July 16 for the first preliminary hearing of the investigation into the allegations.

The Vicenza Prosecutor’s Office has reportedly requested the indictment of Giorgi, as well as 20 other suspects, including Italian singer Madame and doctor Erich Volker Goepel.

It came after Italian doctor Daniela Grillone, who had been investigated by authorities for allegedly delivering fake Covid-19 vaccines to patients, alleged that Giorgi never received the vaccine despite appearing in the second round.

At the time she said: ‘I did everything the Australian government asked me to do. Every year we are fine with that. Of course. I got everything vaccinated, yes.’

Giorgi said he received a vaccine with Grillone and completed the rest of his requirements with other doctors.

“The doctor has been investigated (sic) and this year she was in trouble with the law several times,” Giorgi said.

‘I just did all my vaccinations in different places. Then the problem is yours. I don’t. So with that I am very calm.”

Announcing his retirement on Instagram on Tuesday, Giorgi wrote about his gratitude for the “love and support” he had received from his fans.

Referring to growing speculation about my motivations for retiring, he added: “There have been many inaccurate rumors about my future plans, so I hope to provide more information about the exciting opportunities I will have in the future.”

Giorgi’s last permanent Instagram post was shared from Miami, eight weeks ago.

Giorgi had won four titles on the WTA circuit and reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2018, achieving a career-high world ranking of 26th that year.

She developed a reputation as one of the hardest hitters in women’s football, but also gained attention for her off-field modeling career and social media star presence.
