A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in her home by a man who was seen fleeing the property.
Northern Territory police arrested a 52-year-old man on Wednesday night after a witness heard screams coming from the girl’s Tennant Creek home.
The witness allegedly saw the man flee the property, according to a statement.
The man is in police custody helping with investigations.
The horrific crime allegedly occurred in remote Tennant Creek, about 1,000 kilometers south of Darwin.

It comes after an unrelated alleged incident in which a seven-year-old boy was sexually assaulted in the inner city in December 2023.
Tennant Creek is situated on the Stuart Highway, about 988 kilometers south of Darwin and has a population of 3,080 people.
