Tenacious D’s final Australian show has been “postponed” at the last minute after bandmate Jack Black made a divisive comment about Donald Trump.
Kyle Gass caused controversy on Sunday night when he made a comment on stage in Sydney about the attempted assassination of the former US president.
During her show, Black brought a birthday cake for Gass and asked him to make a wish, to which he replied, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
His comment was in reference to the attempted assassination of the former US president at a rally in Milwaukee, Pennsylvania, in a shooting that pierced Trump’s right ear and killed a spectator.
Just two days after the comment, Tenacious D’s show in Newcastle, New South Wales, on July 16 was cancelled with just hours’ notice, despite Black having been spotted in the city earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, Australian politician Ralph Babet, a Trump supporter, called for the American rock duo to be deported from the country over Gass’ comment.
Frontier Touring took to Instagram on Tuesday to confirm that Tenacious D’s Newcastle show will not go ahead, just three hours before gates were set to open.
The concert promoter gave no reason behind the last-minute cancellation, but urged fans to hold on to their tickets and await “further information.”

They wrote in a statement: ‘Frontier Touring regrets to inform that Tenacious D’s show tonight at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre has been postponed.
‘Ticket holders are asked to hold on to their tickets until more information is available.’
Fans were quick to take to the comments to share their anger at the last-minute cancellation, with some claiming they were already queuing outside Newcastle Entertainment Centre for the show.
One wrote: “Whyy …
A third fumed: “Are you kidding me? We drove for hours, had fights with our accommodation and cancelled with a couple of hours notice.”
A fourth said: ‘What the fuck! I hope the rest of the Australian tour doesn’t get cancelled,’ and a fifth raged: ‘Absolute bullshit!!!’
Fans have also questioned whether upcoming shows on Tenacious D’s Spicy Meatball tour in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide in the coming days will go ahead.
The cancellation comes despite Black having been spotted in Newcastle buying a Seiko watch at local store Thomas’ Timepieces earlier on Monday, while other fans told of taking selfies with the Hollywood star around the city.

Senator Ralph Babet took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday to condemn a comment made by Kyle Gass about Trump on stage in Sydney on Sunday night.
Conservative United Australia Party member Babet condemned Gass’s comment as “evil” and called for Tenacious D to be deported from Australia over it.
Babet, who has previously been outspoken in her support for Trump, slammed the comment as “heinous, disgusting, filthy, evil and not acceptable in any way, shape or form.”
He described Trump as “the future 47th president,” despite the fact that Trump is still in the race against President Joe Biden ahead of the November 2024 election.
“Tenacious D should be immediately banned from the country after wishing for Donald Trump’s assassination at his Sydney concert,” Babet said in a statement.
‘I condemn in the strongest possible terms the call for political violence made by Tenacious D in Sydney on Sunday.
‘Advocating or desiring the assassination of a president is heinous, disgusting, filthy, evil and not acceptable in any way, shape or form.
“It was not a joke, he was very serious when he wished the president dead.”
Babet called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to support her call for the band’s deportation as she continued her strongly worded statement.
He added: ‘I call on the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, to join me in denouncing Tenacious D, Jack Black and band member Kyle Gass, and I call on the Immigration Minister, Andrew Giles, to revoke their visas and deport them immediately.
‘Anything short of deportation is an endorsement of the shooting and attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump, the 45th and soon to be 47th President of the United States.
‘Allowing Tenacious D to remain in Australia after calling for the death of a president is unthinkable and reinforces the weakness of our current Prime Minister.’
