A teenage worker has been injured after a tyre crushed his leg at a mine in central Queensland.
The young man was injured when a tyre fell at the Coppabella opencast coal mine at around 11.30am on Monday.
The man is believed to have suffered lower leg injuries and a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man was in a stable condition.
A BMA CQ rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene and will transport the worker to a hospital.
Queensland Health and Safety Resources launched an investigation after officers arrived at the scene.
“We understand that one worker suffered a crushed limb during activities at the tyre depot,” a spokeswoman said.
‘A coal inspector from RSHQ is travelling to the site and has issued a directive to isolate the incident site.’
The worker is understood to be a person between the ages of 16 and 19.
More to come.
