A Canadian teen is receiving online support after complaining that her teacher refused to let her use the bathroom when she started her period – even while in her own home for remote learning.
The 16-year-old shared her frustrating experience on Reddit, writing that her school requires students to keep their cameras on in every class and ask for permission to use the restroom.
When she recently started her period in the middle of class and asked her teacher if she could walk away – even telling him she was on her period – she was told no and faced with the decision to defy orders and leave anyway , which landed her in trouble.

The recompensor wrote that her school “requires that we keep our cameras on throughout the class.”
“If we have to use the restroom, we have to message our teacher privately and ask to leave,” she added. “I have absolutely no problem with these rules because I understand that teaching online is difficult and you need to make sure everyone is attentive during the lessons.”
However, the enforcement of these rules by her math teacher became unreasonable one day last month.
“During class, I realized I had started my period,” she wrote. ‘I messaged privately [my teacher] Mr T, I asked if I could use the toilet.
I started to feel very uncomfortable so I messaged him a third time explaining that I had started my period
‘I waited 10 minutes but he didn’t answer so I messaged him again, still no reply. By now I was starting to feel very uncomfortable, so I texted him for the third time explaining that I had started my period and that I really had to go, ”she continued.
That’s when Mr. T finally responded and rebuked her for not having the flow of her period “under control.”

On Reddit, the 16-year-old complained, ‘What? I cannot control my periods. I tried to explain that I couldn’t, but he didn’t respond. ‘
Having no alternative, the teen became ‘irritated’ and turned her camera off anyway and left for the bathroom.
“Once I got back I saw that he had kicked me out of the meeting,” she said. ‘I later found out he had written to me [up] for turning off my camera and I got a warning. ‘
The teenager was furious and decided to file a complaint with the school via an online form.
Power Trip: The 16-year-old said her school requires students to keep their cameras on during each class and her teacher would not let her leave
The following week, she discovered that Mr. T was being investigated by the school because there had been “multiple complaints about his behavior and mine was apparently the last straw.”
Sadly, the teen says her father and younger brother made her guilty for getting the teacher into trouble – but commenters on Reddit insist she has nothing to feel bad about and her teacher was largely wrong.
“ I’m so damn tired of men who think we can just hold our menstrual blood like you can with your bladder, ” wrote one. This is a grown man teaching a class of children who are probably half female. He needs to know the basics of menstruation and how to handle when a female student has a problem. ‘
‘I’m amazed that someone can reach adulthood, thinking that a period can be held. Such as: wtf do they think the pads and tampons are for it? Why would someone buy that s *** if we could just hold it? It does not make any sense!’ wrote another.
‘Ah, all the men who tell you about your period and how to deal with it properly. Because they know from personal experience, “another commenter. ‘It’s so annoying that men want to blame women for everything. The teacher is in trouble because of his behavior, not because you did something. ‘
Another wrote that “misogynists who don’t even know how menstruation works shouldn’t be in charge of teens or children.”
“I don’t even understand why a teacher doesn’t allow a student to use the bathroom, learn virtually or in the classroom,” added another. no matter how uncomfortable you are “for someone, especially an underage student?”
Several also condemned the teen’s father and brothers as “sexist.”
