A teenager who got caught in a fight and was allegedly stabbed multiple times while eating something at a food court has recalled the ordeal.
Ned, 18, underwent emergency surgery and a blood transfusion after the melee in the Elizabeth town centre, in Adelaide’s north, on Wednesday.
Speaking from his hospital bed Thursday, the teen said he had only been there to get food and had no intention of starting a fight.
He stressed that he was not carrying a knife and claimed to have managed to disarm one of the alleged attackers holding a gun.
“I wasn’t there to hurt anyone, I took that knife to defend myself,” Ned said. 7news.
Ned later posted a photo of himself on social media with the caption “I don’t want anyone to worry about me, I’m fine.”
His brother, Moey, called the alleged attack “extremely disgusting” and urged young Australians not to aspire to be “gangsters.”
“You’re going to grow up and find out you’re not a gangster like you think you are, you’re going to want to get a job… but you’re going to have a record to your name,” he said.
Ned broke his silence from his hospital bed (pictured) after being stabbed multiple times during a savage fight in a shopping centre.
Ned’s family previously described him as a “beautiful boy” with outstanding school grades.
Police charged three teenagers aged 14, 16 and 17.
The court heard it was revealed the 14-year-old from Elizabeth Vale had previously been investigated for possession and dissemination of child exploitation material.
The boy appeared before via video link requesting to be released on bail as he was only accused of affray.
His lawyer told the court that his involvement in the altercation was minimal, that he was not responsible for the stabbing itself and that he had no relevant criminal record.
A police prosecutor revealed that he had previously been investigated for possession and dissemination of child abuse material, but agreed it was not relevant.
Despite Assistant Magistrate Clive Kitchin describing the alleged offense as a “disgraceful performance”, the boy was released under strict conditions, including a nighttime curfew.
