Ted Lasso spinoff: Cryptic Apple TV+ tweet about Ted Lasso sends fans into a tizzy

Date:

Fans of Emmy-winning AppleTV+ comedy ‘Ted Lasso’ are sharing their excitement after the streaming service sent out a cryptic tweet teasing a spin-off.

On Tuesday — a week after the potential series finale — AppleTV+ tweeted a photo of characters along with a confusing caption.

“Smells like potential,” the service shared along with a photo of Nick Mohammed as Nate Shelley, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent and Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard.

Mohammed went on to quote the tweet and include a face emoji with zipped lips.

The posts drove fans wild, as many immediately jumped at the possibility of a fourth season or spin-off without the involvement of Emmy winner Jason Sudeikis.

‘Don’t play with my feelings, it’s not fair!’ wrote one Twitter user.

Hours after AppleTV+ shared the screenshot of the season three finale, thousands of Twitter users reacted to the post and responded with their hopes.

“I believe this show will return,” wrote Twitter user Andreas Wolny, referencing the show’s iconic “Believe” tagline.

“Need season 4,” another person replied.

“I think Ted Lasso’s song should not be stopped, mainly because it’s an international hit with a simple and good human and educational message,” one user speculated.

“The plot may need another facelift in Season 4, perhaps with new players on the Richmond squad as well as Ted and his crew,” the user continued.

The teasing post was also shared on Instagram with more than three million AppleTV subscribers.

The photo of the three characters from the fictional AFC Richmond had amassed over 20,000 likes and hundreds of responses.

“PLEASE STOP TEASING AND ANNOUNCE THE SPIN-OFF,” one Instagram user wrote.

“This caption is so teasing, honestly,” shot back another.

“If this is true, I’m over the moon, and really hope more happens,” another person wrote.

Viewers speculated that the show would return for another season after an easter egg in the finale hinted at a name change in the future.

At the end of the 75-minute finale titled “So Long, Farewell”, Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso left a note on the book written about AFC Richmond’s rise throughout the broadcast.

‘One small suggestion… I would change the title. It’s not about me. It never was,” Lasso wrote on the first page of the manuscript, originally titled “The Lasso Way.”

Fans have since shared their belief that the show will be renamed “We Are Richmond” or “The Richmond Way” in a spin-off that will see much of the original cast return.

Another major teasing clue to the show’s return is the cast and crew’s vague responses leading up to the finale about whether or not season three would be the end.

In March, the showrunner and creator of the series shared an interview with Deadline that the Ted Lasso story would end in 2023 but avoided calling it the end.

“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we hoped to tell, that we loved to tell,” Sudeikis shared.

Deadline added at the time that the “Saturday Night Live” alum didn’t want to add that the show would be coming to an end.

Production on season three suffered major hiccups due to the covid pandemic and Sudeikis’ custody battle with former fiancée and “Booksmart” director Olivia Wilde.

In the end, the show saw Lasso return from London to his son in Kansas after a penultimate episode laden with “Wizard of Oz” references.

A final clue to what might be to come for the AFC Richmond characters came in the form of an easter egg discovered by an eagle-eyed Twitter user.

One of the last clips of season three, episode 12 includes a shot of Richmond Mae’s bartender adjusting a picture on the wall inside his bar.

The photo is the exact same one that “Cheers” character Sam Malone adjusts on the wall of his bar at the end of the series.

Twitter user Jamie Jirak quoted the tweet and said the reference alluded to a “Frasier” spin-off.

“Cheers spawned one of the greatest spin-offs of all time, so this might be a hint of more to come,” Jirak wrote before adding that Sudeikis is the nephew of cast member George Wendt. of “Cheers”.

For now, the fate of the AFC Richmond club remains unknown.
