The North Sydney seat could be abolished at the next federal election according to a draft proposal from the Australian Electoral Commission.
It is surrounded by the seats of Reid and Bennelong, controlled by Labour, Bradfield, controlled by the Liberals, and Warringah, controlled by the independents.
North Sydney is held by independent Kylea Tink, who unseated liberal progressive Trent Zimmerman in the last election after the incumbent experienced a swing of almost 14 per cent in his primary vote.

The AEC redistribution committee has proposed changing the boundaries of 39 electorates, abolishing one in Melbourne and creating another in Perth (pictured, Sydney proposal).
It was the first time an independent had won the seat since the 1993 election, and it had been won by the Liberals since.
The flagged change follows a proposal to abolish the seat of Higgins in inner Melbourne and the creation of a new electorate in Perth, called Bullwinkel.
The redistribution committee has proposed changing the boundaries of 39 electorates.
The proposed redistributions will affect more than 710,000 voters who will change electorates.
Objections to the redistribution project can be submitted until July 12.
