Heartbreaking: Jake & # 39; s mother confessed to Bremer, who was his teacher, that she was worried about her son after being diagnosed with breast cancer
Helping: Bremer said she and her husband would become Jake & # 39; s guardians if something happened to his mother, who died of breast cancer on November 13
Bremer was Jake & # 39; s teacher at CASE Collaborative School in Concord, Massachusetts when he first moved to the state.
& # 39; He's just so sweet, & # 39; Bremer said about the student. & # 39; He loves everyone and he is so smart and funny. He is very funny & # 39;
That was when she first offered to adopt the child after the mother expressed her concern about what would happen to him if she died.
In May Bremer and her husband, David, officially became Jake's guardians.
& # 39; I called his mother and I said: & # 39; I can transfer too much here, I'm really sorry if I do, but just in case, if you need a backup for Jake, my family would be willing to be his guardians, & she said : "I'm going to sleep better tonight than I have in a very long time," & Bremer recalled.
When you speak Today, the teacher said it was no problem to welcome Jake into her house.
& # 39; I immediately fell in love with Jake, & # 39; said Bremer. & # 39; I knew he would need a house and it was impossible that I would not open ours to him. & # 39;
She and her husband already have four children: Kristen (21), Jonathan (19) and Kaitlyn (16).
The family: When Bremer offered to take over custody of Jake, his mother said it was an enormous weight on her shoulders (in the photo his mother is with Bremer's three other children)
Happy together: after Jake & # 39; s mother died last week, he officially moved to Bremer's household; the couple, seen with all four of their children, became his guardians in May
On November 13, Jake & # 39; s mother died of her cancer. He then moved full-time to Bremer's house that day after her death.
The move was made easier on Jake because he already spent nights and some weekends in the Bremer household to get used to the family before moving into the house permanently.
& # 39; He needed us and frankly we clearly needed him because he fits so perfectly here & # 39 ;, Bremer told Boston 25 News.
Adopting Jake in a busy household has inspired friends and neighbors who know Bremer and her family.
A GoFundMe page was created for the family to help them transition to a household with another member, and it has already raised more than $ 37,000 for the family.
