A public school teacher in New York City has been arrested for allegedly abusing an 11-year-old student and sending her sexually explicit text messages for more than two months.
Daniel Santiago, 29, who worked on PS 244 in Brooklyn, was detained Monday and jailed for sexual abuse and acted in a way to injure a child under the age of 17.
According to the police, Santiago had sexually abused the young student since February, also in school grounds.

An investigation into Santiago was fueled by rumors that started around the East Flatbush primary school about the teacher's behavior towards the 11-year-old girl.
A PIX11 source said the students first came to the front of another teacher, who told the headmaster about Santiago.
Principal Deon Edwards then raised an alarm with the New York City police.
When officials interviewed the alleged victim, the girl allegedly came clean about inappropriate contact with her teacher.

The Department of Education in New York has released a statement stating that Santiago has been removed from the classroom as soon as administrators have learned of the charges against him.
& # 39; We will try to remove him from the payroll as soon as possible while the investigation is pending, & quot; the statement said.
Santiago was arrested on Tuesday in Kings County Court.
