A suspected drug trafficker who was captured in a raid on his mother’s home has been granted house arrest to live with his ex-partner.

Father-of-four Dario Palmieri, 37, was one of two men arrested when heavily armed officers raided a Tea Tree Gully home in Adelaide’s west that allegedly belonged to his mother on February 29.

Palmieri’s mother is not accused of any crime.

Police allege 35 grams of methamphetamine was found on the kitchen table, while $9,750 in cash was hidden inside the microwave.

Two imitation guns and a feather duster were also found in the living room.

Palmieri and his co-defendants were charged with trafficking in controlled drugs, money laundering and use or possession of a prohibited weapon on items seized from the property.

Palmieri appeared before the Elizabeth Magistrates Court via video conference on Friday, where he made an application to be granted home detention for his ex-partner and children, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.

The court heard that prison officials had spoken to Palmieri’s former partner, who was keen to get him back but would not “hesitate to kick him out of the house again if he starts doing something wrong”.

Magistrate Joanna Martin told Palmieri he needed to be “exceptionally grateful” to his ex-partner because she was the only reason he was “going out today.”

“She’s had to do that before, but she’s willing to give it another chance to accommodate him and make the kids happy,” he said.

“If you’re not cleaning the kitchen, cooking, vacuuming, gardening and doing everything you can to help her with those four kids, she’ll have every right to kick you out.”

Palmieri responded that he would be “100 percent” grateful and “would do it for his kids.”

A second man, Ryan Cooney, 34, was also arrested during the Tea Tree Gully raid, where police allege In his vehicle he found 350 ml of the drug GBH.

Palmieri and Cooney will reappear in court in June.
