Taylor Swift laughed at the idea of forgiving her nemesis Kanye West during her show at Lumen Field in Seattle on Saturday, the last stop on her Eras Tour.
The Grammy winner decided to perform, for the first time in five years, her 2017 song This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, which was a dissenting song directed at West, 46, after multiple conflicts over the years, most notably the interruption of her speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
While performing an acoustic version of the song, Swift laughed, saying, in reference to West, “And this is for you, because forgiving is a nice thing to do.”
The 33-year-old singer continued to laugh as she confessed, “I can’t even say it with a straight face.”
The Shake It Off singer’s impromptu performance inspired plenty of commentary on social media from fans who have been aware of the bad blood between the musical powerhouses.
The latest: Taylor Swift, 33, laughed off the idea of forgiving her nemesis Kanye West, 46, during her show at Lumen Field in Seattle on Saturday, her final stop on her Eras Tour.
The seeds of the feud were planted at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
In the infamous exchange, West infamously interrupted Swift during her victory speech for the Best Female Video award for You Belong With Me, which had been nominated against Beyonce’s Single Ladies.
West came onstage and grabbed Swift’s microphone, telling her, “Yo, Taylor, I’m so happy for you, I’ll let you finish.” But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time.’
While the musical stars seemed to be on better terms in the years that followed, they were photographed at a number of events in the years since, things erupting after the release of West’s 2016 hit song “Famous”.
West claimed at the time that Swift had given him her blessing to refer to her as ‘B****’ in the song’s lyrics, in reference to the VMAs incident.
Swift said she never reached such an agreement, sparking a public spat with West after he and ex-wife Kim Kardashian in July 2016 launched a call West and Swift had about the content of the Famous song.
Kardashian alluded to Swift as a snake at the launch of the call, saying in a tweet: “Wait, is it National Snake Day legit?!?!? They have holidays for everyone, I mean everything these days.”
Swift in 2019 spoke with Fashion on how he dealt with the high-profile scandal, saying he channeled his energies into his material.

“A massive public shaming, with millions of people saying you’re in quotes cancelled, it’s a very isolating experience,” he said of the difficult time. ‘When you say someone is cancelled, it’s not a TV show. it’s a human
“You’re sending massive amounts of messages to this person to shut up, disappear, or it could also be perceived as ‘Commit suicide’.”
He discussed the creative process in the wake of the scandal, which reportedly inspired the tracks This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things and Look What You Made Me Do.
“I knew right away that I needed to make music about it because I knew it was the only way I could survive,” Swift told the outlet. “It was the only way I could preserve my sanity and also tell the story of what it’s like to go through something so humiliating.”
While Swift continues to build on her plaudits and her reputation, West’s career has tumbled in the six months since a Dec. 1, 2022 appearance on Alex Jones’ Infowars, in which she lavished praise on the Nazis and Adolf Hitler.
“He didn’t kill six million Jews,” West said on the show, in which he appeared alongside white supremacist Nick Fuentes. ‘That is factually incorrect. I’m not trying to be shocking.
He continued: ‘I like Hitler. The Holocaust is not what happened…Hitler has many redeeming qualities…every human being has something of value that he brought to the table, especially Hitler.’
The appearance came before West was banned from Twitter later that day for posting an image of a swastika intertwined with a Star of David.
The turbulent day capped a two-month stretch in which West dominated headlines after making a series of anti-Semitic comments, prompting several companies to cut ties with him.
The race-related controversies began on October 3, 2022 when he and conservative commentator Candace Owens donned tops reading White Lives Matter during a Paris Fashion Week showing for their Yeezy line.
West faced restrictions on his social media sites after he tweeted on Oct. 8: “I’m a little sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going to die with 3 over the JEWISH PEOPLE…”
He continued: The funny thing is that I can’t really be anti-Semitic because black people are Jews too… you have played me and tried to shade anyone who opposes your agenda.’

Appearing on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ show, West said he saw “good things” about Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

West made offensive comments on Oct. 8 after facing restrictions on Instagram

West made headlines in October for a Paris Fashion Week showing for his Yeezy line that saw him and conservative commentator Candace Owens don tops that said White Lives Matter on the back.
Professional fallout from West’s repeated statements about anti-Semitism included Adidas cutting ties with him on October 25 for his conduct.
Foot Locker and the Gap have vowed to remove Yeezy from their shelves, while fashion mainstays like Vogue and Balenciaga have publicly distanced themselves from the rapper/fashion designer.
Talent agency CAA has removed West from its list, while a documentary about West made by studio MRC has been shelved.
