A young woman seriously injured in a horrific highway collision that killed her sister while traveling to see Taylor Swift in concert remains in a coma.
Freya Pokarier, 10, was airlifted to Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney after the van she was traveling in with her sister and mother collided with a semi-trailer near Dubbo on February 15 while they were traveling from their home in Gold Coast to Melbourne.
Their older sister Mieka, 16, sadly died at the scene, while the girls’ mother was rushed to Dubbo Hospital with serious injuries, but is now by Freya’s side after being discharged.
The girls’ godmother, Karleigh Fox, said Friday that there was no progress to announce on Freya’s condition and that she remained in a coma, in a post shared with a GoFundMe Page created to help the family following the tragedy.
“We do not have any updated information on the condition of our dear Freya,” Mrs Fox said.
“We’re just surrendering to this process of continued patience and working through all the logistical work that comes with staying in a city that’s not our own and grieving for Mieka.”

Mieka Pokarier, 16, was traveling with her mother and younger sister to Melbourne from the Gold Coast to see Taylor Swift in concert when their SUV collided with a truck.
The family were on the “trip of a lifetime” to see Swift in Melbourne (pictured) and Sydney and spent hours updating the ticket purchase page.
Fox said Westmead had provided an “amazing” chaplain and social workers to support the family and the girls’ father and older sister also traveled from the Gold Coast to be at Freya’s bedside.
“The surgeons and nurses continue to offer unrivaled care to our girl and we have officially moved into the Ronald McDonald House, where they offer beautiful, quality meals and accommodation, and for that we are very grateful.”
“I can’t rate them enough.”
She added that Freya’s school changed the school bell to play Taylor Swift songs to show their support and thanked other ‘Swifites’ who had sent in photos of themselves wearing handmade bracelets with the girls’ names.
Swift fans, known as Swifties, exchange self-made bracelets, and many are now making them in Mieka’s honour, with her name on them (pictured).
