Taylor Martin: New bride stuns the political world by walking out just months after fairytale wedding – after his ugly text row with his ex Lucy Wicks was revealed

A Liberal MP’s new wife has walked out on him just two months after their fairytale wedding and amid a party inquiry into him bombarding an ex-girlfriend with ‘nasty and undignified’ text messages.

NSW Upper House MP Taylor Martin married his girlfriend Brittany in a luxurious ceremony at Sydney’s Grounds of Alexandria in December in front of around 110 guests.

But within eight weeks the relationship was over and Brittany and her three-year-old daughter had left the house they had shared with Mr Martin on the state’s central coast.

A source close to the former couple said Brittany is now seeking counseling as the mother-of-one navigates the nasty split.

“I was shocked to hear about the breakdown of the marriage so soon,” said an insider.

‘He was lovely to everyone before the wedding, he had even been on holiday with her family.

‘He looked completely in love with Brittany and so happy… it all turned ugly as soon as they got married.’

The wedding came just five months after Mr Martin publicly apologized for past behavior when his former boss and partner, former federal MP for the seat of Robertson Lucy Wicks, lodged a formal complaint with the NSW Liberal Party. She accused him of verbally abusing her over a five-year period.

Martin publicly apologized for a series of text messages – leaked to the media – that he sent Ms Wicks during that period, calling her a ‘stupid s**t’ and a ‘f**king pig’, and promised to help any investigation into the charges.

He said at the time: ‘I was young and inexperienced and I found myself involved in a situation that was way beyond me. There were heated words during my attempts to break up, which I sincerely regret.

‘It was an ugly and undignified crossroads.’

Relations between the couple turned sour in 2019, when Mr Martin was 29 and Ms Wicks was 46. Mr. Martin was first employed as an employee in Mrs Wicks’ office when he was 24.

Daily Mail Australia has been told the Liberal Party investigation – launched eight months ago – is still ongoing and has been referred to external investigators.

Martin will remain in the Folketing, but will no longer sit in the Liberal Party’s party room while the case is processed.

State Opposition Leader Mark Speakman previously said he would not speculate on the young MP’s future until the investigation is complete.

The 32-year-old MP still has pictures from his wedding available on his private social media pages. It is understood he has not informed his colleagues of the split.

“They only got married recently,” a colleague said, adding that they were “shocked” to hear the relationship was over.

Martin has been vocal in parliament in recent months.

In late November, he campaigned for the introduction of ‘no contact orders’ as an alternative to apprehended violence orders.

“I think the time has come to look at making an option available to people who are under the severity of an apprehended violence order (AVO),” he said at the time.

‘Clearly there are people in our society who are not safe to be around once an intimate relationship has ended.

“A less serious action than an AVO, a no contact order would be a first port of call that people could easily use to serve as formal notice to the other party that the next step will be an AVO if they breach the order without Contact.

‘I can tell you from experience that applying for an AVO is not a matter to be taken lightly. It is an extremely confronting and triggering experience.’

When Mr Martin gave his inaugural address back in 2017, he spoke out against both bullying and domestic violence and explained how his upbringing was shaped by his own experiences of being tackled on the playground.

“Domestic violence strikes a nerve with almost everyone in our state,” he said.

“As we see reported incidents increasing and more and more people taking a stand, I’m sure every family has at least one story to tell close to home.

‘I know I do that among my friends and family. I want to be an advocate among young men.

“We need to make sure that young boys who will become young men get the mentoring necessary to teach and emphasize the value of respect in all relationships, even if — in fact, especially when it’s not modeled in their home.”
