Danielle Zimmermann’s daughter Kiamba dreams of becoming a builder since she could talk.
So when her mother suggested celebrating her fifth birthday party at Bunnings Warehouse near their home on the outskirts of Hobart, Tasmania, the little girl’s eyes lit up with excitement.
In her fifth year, Kiamba and her family and friends called the party of a lifetime at Kingston Bunnings in February 2019, complete with a construction workshop, a face painting station and an extensive cake decorated with edible hardware.
A dozen employees have put down tools to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and give her a special gift – a children’s building set to encourage her to pursue a career in construction.
Now six, Kiamba is still talking about her incredible Bunnings birthday party and often plays with the miniature tools that were so thoughtfully given to her by staff last year.

“I knew Kiamba would love a Bunnings-themed party because she has been talking about being a builder since the beginning,” Zimmermann told Daily Mail Australia.
“I suggested the theme and Kiamba answered by asking if she could go to the Bunnings playground instead of a party with some friends on her birthday.”
Mrs. Zimmermann contacted the Coordinator of Bunnings Activities to request permission to arrange a cake and fruit bowl next to the playground, but was disappointed that their local Kingston store did not organize children’s parties.
Determined to give her daughter a birthday to remember, she responded by sending pictures of Kiamba running around Bunnings with a big smile on her face, and was happy when the staff agreed to organize a group of woodworking lessons for the occasion.
But only when they arrived at the store did Mrs. Zimmermann realize how much time and effort had been spent on her little girl’s party.

A team member was present to apply face paint and glittering tattoos to the children before stopping a huge cake decorated with construction tools and decorated with a giant Bunnings logo.
While the party was over, employees brought Kiamba to the staff room where she said she hopes to work at Bunnings as soon as she is old enough.
Kiamba ‘absolutely loved’ the day from start to finish and still looks at pictures of the party more than a year later
Mrs. Zimmermann said that her daughter loved ‘absolutely loved the day’ from the start to the end and still looks at pictures of the party more than a year later.
“She’s still talking about it and always looks at pictures,” she said.
“She also received several Bunnings vouchers for her birthday, which she used at the end of the party for garden supplies and more tools!”
