What could be better than one of Amazon’s smart speakers? A few of them, of course. It’s nice to have a voice-activated assistant in multiple rooms – and now you can do that cheaply. For a limited time, and while supplies last, Target is giving you a free Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker when you buy one at the regular price ($50).
To get this deal, all you need to do is add two dots to your cart. This works out to just $25 per unit, a price that even beats Amazon Prime Day (when the Dot dropped to $30).
True to its name, the bulbous Dot is on the small side. While it can do all the legendary “Alexa” things, like answer questions, tell you the weather, and interact with other smart-home devices (“Alexa, turn on the bedroom light”), it’s not the best choice if you’re plan to listen to music.
So consider picking the bigger, better-sounding full-size Echo — and take advantage of Target’s deal on that model: Buy two Echo smart speakers and save $80. That will get you out the door for $120, a price per speaker of just $60.
(Pro tip: If you have a Target RedCard and use it to pay for one of these deals, you’ll save an extra 5 percent.)
It’s worth noting that both the Echo and Echo Dot are available in the colors of your choice, and they don’t have to be the same; for example, you could add a Charcoal Echo and a Twilight Blue Echo to your cart and still get the discount.
Target offers free shipping here, but if your local store has them in stock, you may be able to pick them up today.
Even if you’re only using a fraction of the Echo’s capabilities, I think you’ll find it a welcome addition. I use mine for weather reports, music, timers, and the occasional kitchen-related questions (“Alexa, how many ounces in a cup?”). Guess what: You now have the option to use a male voice and wake word name: Ziggy.
