Talks between Barcelona and Ousmane Dembele over an extension have been reported to have slowed down over fears at the club that the attacker has a pre-contract agreement with another club.
With Dembele stuck until 2022, Barcelona are eager to hand him a new deal, but so far talks have failed to reach an agreement and his future hangs firmly in the air.
Sports world claim that, despite the club’s keen interest in keeping Dembele, there is a ‘difficult’ stalemate over the new terms.
Contract talks between Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona are now reportedly delayed
The 24-year-old was initially allowed to leave last summer with Ronald Koeman unconvinced by him, but Dembele has come back to enjoy a fine season and finally shake off a string of persistent injuries.
As a result, Barcelona are adamant they would rather keep him but are currently at risk of him entering the final 12 months of his current deal with little progress being made with an extension.
The same report also adds that the club’s stance has been made clear to Dembele’s representatives, but the French international is still hesitant to put pen to paper.
Dembélé’s deal runs until 2022 and his club is keen to agree to an extension this summer
It has been suggested that Dembele’s camp plans to wait until the end of Euro 2020 first, as the tournament may well catch the eye of the winger and spark interest in him.
Any potential bidding war could even force Barcelona to raise their terms.
However, there is also fear among Camp Nou figures that Dembele may have already agreed to sign a pre-contract with another club.
His contract would go into his final six months on January 1, and from that date Dembele would be officially free to negotiate with any team he wishes.

Despite this, Barcelona’s position is largely unchanged and they want Dembele to stay. However, they would review all submitted offers should the former Borussia Dortmund man decide he wants to leave.
Manchester United and Juventus have both shown interest in Dembele in the past and Barcelona would now rather pay a transfer fee rather than miss out if he walks away for free.
Dembélé had been openly reticent about his future when he was recently questioned about it by the press.
Dembélé is adamant there is ‘no rush’ on new deal and focused on Euro 2020 with France
“I don’t know, we’ll see,” said Dembélé vertelde The team.
“We will have a meeting with Barca. I still have time, there is no rush [for me] or for them, we’ll see what happens.
‘First I am completely focused on the European Championship with France and then I go on holiday. It’s been a long season.’
