Taking style notes from Kate? Princess Anne wears black opera gloves weeks after Princess of Wales’ daring BAFTA look

The Princess of Wales delighted fashionistas when she stepped out in a glamorous pair of black opera gloves at this year’s BAFTAs.

And now it looks like Princess Anne has turned to Kate Middleton for fashion inspiration for her latest engagement.

Last night, the royal family, 72, went all out to attend the International Financing Review Awards gala at the Grosvenor Hotel in its role as patron of Save the Children UK.

As guest of honor at the annual event, which has raised more than £30 million for charity, the Princess Royal cut a glamorous figure in a sparkly green short-sleeved gown.

The dress features several ornate patterns that run diagonally down the front as well as a small slit on the side.

Princess Royal, 72, cut a glamorous figure last night when she was pictured arriving at the Grosvenor Hotel in London for the International Finance Awards.

Along with some black suede heels and a rectangular clutch with gold hardware, the Princess Royal finished off her flirty ensemble with a pair of black velvet gloves.

Seemingly inspired by her niece’s, Princess Anne’s gloves also ended just above her elbow — meaning most of her arm was covered as she braved the cold in the capital.

Last month, designer Miranda Golder paid tribute to Kate Middleton’s ‘elegant’ look — which saw the mom-of-three’ pair of gloves paired with a one-shoulder recycled Alexander McQueen dress.

The expert described Kate Middleton’s bold, monochromatic outfit as a “confident” display of the princess.

Talking to MirrorMiranda said: ‘Since becoming Princess of Wales, Kate’s style has evolved into something more refined and confident, as she takes on this new role with enthusiasm, looking every inch for the future queen.

“Compared to previous BAFTA costumes, this look felt more mature, more polished and poised, showing us that Kate can take on whatever challenges the role throws at her.”

She added that the monochromatic look helped Kate appear on the red carpet so members of the public could see her – a nod to the late queen’s trait.

Queen Elizabeth II has been known to wear clothes and colors that made her stand out in a crowd during public engagements, meaning royal fans and well-wishers who gathered to catch a glimpse of her could easily spot her.

After announcing her patronage, the royal family said: ‘I am proud of my long association with Save the Children, and honored to succeed Her Majesty The Queen as Patron. It is an organization that embodies the spirit of empathy, openness, and excellence. Her values are an inspiration. Her achievements are a source of hope for millions of children.
