A mother in Taiwan has saved her daughter from being kidnapped by a stranger during a school trip.
The desperate mother, known by her last name Wu, entered a "tug-of-war" with the man on a Taipei street Wednesday while holding her seven-year-old daughter tightly to avoid being taken.
The attacker, named by the police as Zhou, 33, finally released the girl after the spectators rushed to help.
When the police questioned him, Zhou claimed that he had confused Wu and his son with someone he knew.

The girl was walking home from school with her mother on a street in the Neihu district around 6 p.m. when Zhou tried to kidnap her, according to Mingpao.com.
Surveillance images released by Taipei police and shared by Mingpao show Zhou waiting in front of a restaurant before trying to get the girl from her mother with her backpack.

The spectators quickly gathered to face Zhou, who finally released the girl and walked away.
Recalling the horrific event, Wu told the Taiwan TV station SETN that the attacker was trying to suffocate his daughter when she was trying to defend herself against him.
She said she was so afraid that the attacker would harm her daughter with weapons.
