Grimes faced some major technical issues during her performance on the opening weekend of the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Things seemed to get off to a grand and dramatic start when she made her grand entrance onto the Sahara stage in a futuristic walking vehicle that crawled like a spider while she sat in the back seat, according to Variety.

Despite a warning before his show with some posts on X (formerly Twitter) that he expected some problems, his 50-minute series is off to a great start.

But about halfway through the show, the electronic singer-songwriter, 36, was forced to restart Music 4 Machines several times, which she blamed on the song playing at twice the intended tempo.

‘This is crazy. All my songs are double the tempo,” she revealed, while letting out some screams of frustration. ‘This is a difficult thing to explain, but we are having a major technical error. Don’t judge me for being bad at calculating things.’

Throughout the fiasco on stage, Grimes (born Claire Elise Boucher) attempted to explain the problems to the audience and try to work out the calculations in real time and remember the tempo of each song.

He was unable to rework them at the time, which derailed his plans.

Finally, he decided to go ahead and play several unreleased songs, some of which were only recorded in the last few days.

He paused between each track, letting out some frustrated screams, stating that it wasn’t “actually my fault” that the set was falling apart, according to TMZ.

‘I’m trying to think. “I’m not good enough at math for this s**t,” she said.

In the end, he decided to play his 2012 song Genesis, but the set was eventually cut short and he left the stage around the 50-minute mark.

Grimes took to X (formerly Twitter) a few hours before going on stage to let fans know that she wasn’t expecting a perfect performance, which turned out to be correct.

“Ok, I’m playing a bunch of new stuff tonight and we’re literally still fixing vocal mixes and stuff; a lot of it isn’t finished,” he explained around 3pm on Saturday. ‘So if there are weird moments or bad voices, this is why!’

“I’ll work more between coachellas, so next week will probably be even better,” he promised.

A few minutes later, he returned to the social media platform to further explain why he felt there would be technical issues.

‘The first half of the set is more mixes I did, then the end is all new stuff / nothing is mastered even if there are volume drops and all that. In my opinion, the songs you’ll probably enjoy the most are Fantasia (tears r data) and sync, but my favorite is liberté,” she explained.

“I still need to do vocal stacks in the chorus, but my tour manager has forbidden me from doing any more edits,” he wrote.

“I didn’t have time to finish the requested cybertweet since that type of music doesn’t sound very good live, but it’s coming too.”

Moments later, he shared another disclaimer.
