Sydney Weather: Week-Long Rainfall – What You Need to Know

Much of Australia's east and west coast will be hit by a mega rain bomb this week, bringing flooding risks to several states (pictured, wet weather in Melbourne).

Heavy rain will hit much of Australia’s east and west coast this week, bringing an abrupt end to pleasant spring weather.

A combination of troughs and low pressure systems will bring rain and possible flooding to New South Wales, with Sydney remaining wet for most of this week.

Harbor City is expected to receive between 15 and 30mm of rain each day this week starting Tuesday before rainfall increases over the weekend.

A spell of warm weather was broken in Sydney on Monday, with maximum temperatures struggling to get above 20C.

Showers and thunderstorms will also develop in the western regions of Western Australia before spreading south and east between Tuesday and Thursday.

Much of Australia’s east and west coast will be hit by a mega rain bomb this week, bringing flooding risks to several states (pictured, wet weather in Melbourne).

Rainfall totals in the west and southwest of the state are expected to remain below 10 mm; however, some areas of the far southwest will see cumulative totals ranging between 15 and 50 mm by the end of the week.

The wet conditions could be a much-needed relief for many on the West Coast. This comes after parts of Perth and Bunbury endured their driest seven-month period on record.

“Although there won’t be enough rain to completely eradicate the rainfall deficits of the past seven months, the wet weather will be a welcome change for the arid landscape,” Weatherzone’s Ben Domensino said.

The meteorologist said most forecast models agree that heavy rain will affect parts of eastern, western and central New South Wales, as well as southern Queensland.

“Weather patterns like this can result in several hundred millimeters of rain along the New South Wales coast and adjacent ranges,” he said.
