Heavy rain is lashing eastern Australia, marking the end of a sweltering heatwave as a powerful cold front moves through the region.
It comes after millions of Australians suffered through hot, dry weather, while much of the east of the country saw temperatures reach into the 30s and even 40s.
The heaviest rain has hit eastern regions of New South Wales today, with the Illawarra expected to receive 40-50mm, Sydney expected to receive 30-35mm and northern parts of the state expected to receive 20-30mm .
“Sydney has a chance of rain every day until early next week,” he explained. weather zone Chief Meteorologist Brett Dutschke.
“Parts of the city will experience rain over the weekend, and thunderstorms are likely most days, including Friday.”
Southeast Queensland, including Brisbane, is also experiencing a prolonged period of wet weather, with showers and thunderstorms expected to continue into Friday.
‘The rain system is moving very slowly and will spread across a large area of the east coast. Over the weekend, it will spread to Victoria and Tasmania, affecting the east coast, nearby mountain ranges and adjacent inland regions.
Canberra, Hobart and Darwin will see some rain over the next week and storms are also a risk in each of these cities at some point.
The Kimberley region of WA is also forecast to receive heavy rainfall.
