Temperatures are set to be five degrees below average in parts of the country while potential floods could hit the north and a sweltering heat wave could hit the west.
The cooler weather is expected to move out of Victoria on Tuesday and spread across New South Wales and southeast Queensland over the next two days.

Sky News Weather meteorologist Rob Sharp said Victoria would see the coldest weather with the mercury dropping below average.
“For the southeastern corner of the country, it’s noticeably cooler than normal,” he said.
“Day by day, it is five times below average in the summer and almost five times below average in the fall as well.”
Melbourne will shiver through a maximum of 19C on Tuesday before temperatures climb slightly to 21C on Wednesday before the temperature climbs to 26C on Saturday.
The Southern Change will move north all week, bringing cooler conditions along the East Coast.
“The southern change will come up on the New South Wales coast on Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures there as well,” Sharp said.
“By Thursday, we should see it heading towards southeast Queensland.”
Sydney will see a pleasant 27°C on Tuesday before the mercury warms to a high of 29°C on Wednesday.
Thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon and evening over the next couple of days, with light rain expected for the rest of the week.
Temperatures will remain around the mid 20°C all week.

Brisbane will miss out on cooler weather temperatures rising to a maximum of 31C on Tuesday.
The mercury will rise to 33°C on Wednesday before dropping to 30°C by Friday.
About 200mm of rain could fall in the Top End with the monsoon forecast to bring rain and flooding around Tennant Creek and Katherine.
Darwin can handle up to 25mm each day for the rest of the week with temperatures reaching a maximum of 31°C.
A severe heat wave will hit Western Australia, reaching 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
The mercury will dip slightly to 35°C on Friday before dropping into 20°C by Sunday.
You’ll feel the sweltering heat all along the state’s coast from Augusta to Caernarfon.
Adelaide will enjoy a series of pleasant days as the mercury is expected to hover around 24°C from Tuesday.
Hobart is expected to see a maximum of 20°C on Tuesday before the temperature rises slightly to 22°C on Thursday.
