The victim of a suspected terrorist stabbing at a university is a psychology graduate student who researches brain disorders.
Melvern Kurniawan, 22, was allegedly stabbed in the neck and back with a kitchen knife by a 14-year-old boy at Sydney University at around 8.35am on Tuesday.
Mr Kurniawan was walking towards the campus’s famed Brain and Mind Centre when the alleged random attack took place.

Passersby rushed to his aid and stopped the bleeding from his wounds until paramedics arrived on the scene.
He was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and is now recovering at home after being discharged.
The teenager, who was wearing an army cadet-style uniform, was arrested by police a short time later.
He is currently in custody and is believed to be undergoing a mental health evaluation.
Mr Kurniawan’s family broke their silence on Wednesday following his ordeal.
“She’s fine, very fine. She doesn’t want to talk about it for now, just recover first,” her mother Desy told the newspaper. Daily Telegraph.
Doctors said Mr Kurniawan will return home on Tuesday evening, however he will need ongoing treatment for his injuries.

Some of Mr Kurniawan’s friends, who visited his home, told the newspaper that he is an academically gifted student with a “brilliant mind”.
“He’s the smartest guy we know… It’s horrible that this happened,” said one friend.
Mr. Kurniawan is a research assistant at the Brain and Mind Center and is currently completing a dissertation.
