About 3.30am, the driver was washing his car at a 24-hour car wash on Atchison Road, Macquarie Fields, when he was ambushed by three people armed with a knife.

Two of them allegedly stole the man’s car and drove away, taking his mobile phone and wallet, while a third left the scene on a scooter.

The 48-year-old man from Minto walked to Macquarie Fields police station and reported the incident. He was distraught but not hurt.

The stolen vehicle was driven to Ambarvale, a nearby suburb, where it collided with another car about 45 minutes later.

A woman in her 60s called police after the head-on crash on Copperfield Drive and said two people got out of the other car and took off on a scooter.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for chest injuries after the impact activated her car’s airbag.

He is expected to visit a hospital later today for further treatment.
