When talking about the project, which will be directed by filmmaker David Michôd, he said TMZ who is thrilled with the casting, especially considering Sweeney’s background in MMA and combat sports.

The Emmy-nominated actress said she was ready for the “physically and emotionally demanding” role in the biopic, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

“I’m the daughter of a coal miner from a small town in southern West Virginia who made an impact on a sport that wasn’t taken seriously: women’s boxing.”

And although Martin was not involved in the casting and has not yet spoken to Sweeney, she said she was honored to have the Euphoria alum take on the role.
