And the bad news is that Sydneysiders are in for several more days of spring rain, with showers also expected across the country.
The wet weather came after the Bureau of Meteorology forecast above-average rainfall for southern and eastern Australia this summer.
‘We saw most of the storms hit the southern suburbs. “The intensity of the rain and how quickly it fell is what caused flash flooding across the city,” BoM senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury told Sunrise.
This caused disruptions to traffic and transportation, and rainfall reached between 30 and 40 millimeters in the space of 40 minutes.
‘It rained so much that our drainage systems were overwhelmed. “Sydney often comes to a standstill due to these downpours,” he said.
The meteorologist said rain is expected on the east coast over the next few days.

“The long-range forecast for November to January suggests we will see warmer than average conditions, both day and night, across Australia,” he said.
‘We are likely to see above-average rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of the country, especially the south-eastern parts.
‘In the West, it may not be above or below average; “It really depends on if we get more storm systems through.”

On Tuesday there will be rain and a high temperature of 20 degrees in Sydney.
The city will see more rain on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging between 13 and 19 degrees.
