A cold front moving north will continue to bring freezing temperatures, rain and strong winds.
While severe weather warnings have been lifted in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, all three states and southeast Queensland have high wind warnings in place.

‘On the left, we have a classic band of northwesterly clouds. To the right, a field of mottled clouds off the east coast,” he said.
‘The left-hand cloud band has already produced good falls across parts of south-west Western Australia and is producing light falls this Thursday morning across parts of southern South Australia, including Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas.

“As for the speckled cloud, the pattern occurs when cold air moves over a relatively warm area of the ocean, causing a large number of individual cumulus clouds to develop over a wide area with areas of clear sky in between.” .
‘Mottled clouds can be clearly seen in the waters off southern Queensland. With such cold air moving north and clouds and moisture remaining well off the coast, it’s no wonder nights are currently very cold in Queensland, especially in the southern hinterland.

Snow falls on Australia
Snow fell across the highlands of Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT on Wednesday, as the strong cold front that crossed the region on Tuesday ushered in much colder air.
Snowfall totals ranged from light to moderate at different locations in the mountains. Perisher ski resort in New South Wales is reporting 25cm of snow on the ground, while most other resorts are reporting around half that amount.

Falls Creek is looking beautiful this morning after the Victorian ski resort reported 17cm of fresh snow.
Sydney
Cloudy skies over Sydney on Thursday will turn to showers on Friday.
A high temperature of 17C and partly cloudy conditions are forecast for Thursday, becoming cloudier in the evening. A minimum of 9°C is forecast.
On Friday there is a very high probability of rain along the coastal strip and a high probability in the rest of the city.
Up to 35 mm is forecast to fall during Friday and Saturday, with a minimum of 8 degrees.
Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny before skies are clear on Monday.
Melbourne
Melbourne has a slight chance of showers on Thursday before cloud cover begins to clear from Friday.
Partly cloudy conditions are forecast until the end of the weekend along with highs of around 10 degrees and lows of 5C and 6C.
Rain is expected to develop from Monday and remain over Melbourne until the middle of next week.
brisbane
The Brisbane forecast is all sunshine, except for a partly cloudy Friday.
Temperatures in the sunny state capital look consistent for next week with highs around 20C and lows around 10C.
Perth
Clouds over Perth on Thursday are expected to clear completely for a sunny Friday.
However, the sky will turn gray again from Saturday with a medium chance of showers, probably in the afternoon and evening.
Sunday has a very high chance of showers followed by a medium chance of showers on Monday.
Hobart has a small chance of seeing showers on Thursday before the rain passes and lingers into next week.
Adelaide
Adelaide can expect rain throughout the day on Thursday.
Friday and Saturday also look wet with a very high chance of showers on Friday and a high chance of showers on Saturday.
On Sunday there is a medium chance of rain in the hills with a slight chance elsewhere, most likely in the morning.
hobart
Hobart has a small chance of seeing showers on Thursday before the rain passes and lingers into next week.
The chance of rain increases to medium on Friday and Saturday, followed by a very high chance on Sunday.
Forecasts show the maximum temperature in Hobart will remain steadily at 11C from Friday until the middle of next week.
Melbourne has a slight chance of showers on Thursday before cloud cover begins to clear from Friday.
Canberra
Canberra is forecast to be partly cloudy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a chance of morning frost and fog early Friday morning.
Frost is also expected on Sunday with a minimum of -1°C. Fortunately, the day is expected to be sunny with a high of 12°C.
Darwin
Darwin remains Australia’s hottest city, with clear skies and highs of 30C forecast until next week.
