A week-long heatwave is about to hit Australia with temperatures in one city hitting 40C – here’s the forecast for your region

Large parts of Australia are set to experience a seven-day heatwave this week, with temperatures in one state expected to reach 40 degrees.
South Australia will experience its first major heatwave since 2019 this week after meteorologists warned of a ‘challenging record extreme heat’.
Highs in Adelaide will be 35C on Monday, 36C on Tuesday and 38C on Wednesday and highs of 40C are expected on Thursday and Friday.
The city last recorded maximum temperatures in December 2019 when the population had a multi-day high of 42°C.
And temperatures are set to rise in other parts of the country this week, with temperatures reaching 30C in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Darwin and Queensland.

Meteorologists say evenings will remain steady, with low temperatures only dropping to 24°C on Wednesday and 27°C on Thursday.
Adelaide residents are advised not to go out in the sun and to keep babies and children indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
The heat wave will also raise the risk of wildfires in the country.
On Thursday, a wildfire swept through and destroyed 16 properties in Port Lincoln in southern SA.
While the fire was contained overnight, warnings were issued of potentially hazardous smoke from the fire, which started in the city’s landfill.
After high temperatures reached the high 30°C over the weekend, Sydney will enjoy temperatures in the high 20° for the next seven days.
Rain is expected Tuesday through Thursday in Harbor City.
Highs in Perth are set to reach 36°C on Monday, 31°C on Tuesday, 29°C on Wednesday, 26°C on Thursday and 27°C on Friday, temperatures will rise over the weekend. , with 31°C on Saturday and 32°C on Sunday, with similar temperatures expected in Darwin.

The Met Office has warned of a severe fire risk in the southern and southern interior of Queensland over the next few days.
Brisbane will record temperatures in the high 20s throughout the week, with Tuesday and Sunday hitting highs of 30C.
The ACT will warm to 34°C on Monday before temperatures drop to 21°C on Wednesday and 24°C on Thursday.
Further south in Melbourne, the city will see some cooler days at the start of the week before temperatures reach 36°C on Friday and Saturday.
In Hobart, temperatures will also remain in the low 20s with a chance of rain on Monday, before rising to 35C on Friday and 33C on Saturday.
It comes after the city experienced its hottest day in two years on Friday at 36.1°C, 14°C above average.
