A man from Sydney is almost $ 3 million richer by courtesy of an unregistered lottery ticket.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, only discovered that he had won the considerable sum of cash two weeks after the lottery draw was carried out.

He had bought the winning ticket from a press kiosk in Parramatta, in the west of the city.

But as the entry was not registered, he could not be contacted and had to wait until Friday morning to make a discovery that changed his life.

The man, who lives on the beaches north of the city, was one of the seven winners of division one nationwide in the Superdraw on July 28.

Each winner won the division prize of $ 2,857,142.86.

He said he was speechless when he discovered he had won and described the feeling as "incredible".

& # 39; I'm really overwhelmed. This is crazy. I am speechless. This is going to surprise my family, "the man said when speaking with a NSW lottery official on Friday to confirm his victory.

"When I scanned my ticket at the kiosk, the lady told me that I had to call them guys because I had probably earned more than $ 1,000.

"I did not call for a few hours because I simply assumed that my ticket would not be scanned because the raffle was two weeks ago."

The man said he never expected the call to inform him that he had become a multi-millionaire.

"I never thought I would earn that much money, so I'm completely shocked," he said.

The man said that he and his wife will now be able to travel through Australia, which they could not before because they did not have the finances.

"I'll have to talk to my wife, but we wanted to get one of those really fancy caravans to travel around Australia, but we've never been able to pay for it. Well, now we can, "he said.

It could also speed up our retirement. It means that we can really enjoy life now.

He said he also wants to help his children.

"It will prepare them for the rest of their lives, which is excellent," he said.
