Australian tourist’s hospital ordeal in Bali after claiming thieves tried to drag him and his girlfriend off a scooter to steal his phone

A tourist in Bali was left with six broken ribs and a fractured skull after he and his girlfriend claimed they were mugged while riding a motorbike at the holiday hotspot.
Dilor Yeretzian and his partner Cosette Karam, both from Lebanon and now living in Sydney, had been enjoying their last night on the Indonesian holiday island last Monday when they decided to hit McDonald’s at midnight.
The couple were driving a scooter home from the fast food restaurant when Ms. Karam pulled out her phone for directions.
However, the couple claim that this quickly drew the attention of two men dressed in black helmets and black overalls, who stopped next to them and snatched the phone from Ms Karam’s hand, prompting Mr. Yeretzian lost control and crashed.

Yeretzian is now lying in a hospital bed in Bali and facing a $69,000 medical bill because he didn’t buy his trip with a credit card that travel insurance usually provides.
A fundraiser has since been set up to help bring the tourist back to Australia.
In addition to several broken ribs and a fractured shoulder, Mr. Yeretzian has accumulated blood and fluid in his lungs and suffered a minor skull fracture.
He and his girlfriend were traveling at around 50 km/hour when they were allegedly attacked, Yeretzian’s cousin Anthony Matta wrote on the website. GoFundMe.
“Cosette immediately got up and saw her beloved boyfriend on the floor, rolling his eyes and making unusual sounds,” Matta said.

Mr. Yeretzian has suffered six broken bones, a broken shoulder and a minor skull fracture.
“In addition to multiple areas of her body being rubbed, scratched and bruised, there is also the traumatic image of her injured companion that Cosette will have burned into her brain forever.
“We are grateful that they are just breathing, it is a miracle that they are both alive after this horrendous assault.”
Karam said in a Facebook post that the police had been unable to help and because his partner was in no condition to fly home, he needed to have surgery in Bali.
“We really need all the help we can get right now,” he said.
The fundraiser has so far received over $50,000 in donations.
