Sydney Kurnell drug lab bust: Cops seize $200,000 and six kilograms of ecstasy from backyard shed

An allegedly “complex and clandestine” drug lab hidden in a backyard shed has been vandalized with $200,000 in cash and six kilograms of MDMA seized.

Two men, aged 56 and 29, were arrested after police stormed a property on Horning Street in Kurnell, south-east Sydney, on May 4.

Along with the alleged cash and drug loot, police say they seized more than 100kg of unrefined drugs and chemical precursors.

Officers say dismantling the alleged drug lab took five days of work by specialist crews

The alleged drug lab was discovered in a shed at the rear of the property.

Officers described it as a “complex clandestine laboratory” containing hundreds of items allegedly related to the production of illegal drugs seized for research.

Police say it took five days for the lab to be dismantled by specialist agents from the Drug and Firearms Squad Chemical Operations Unit and NSW Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT teams.

The two men arrested have been transferred to Sutherland Police Station.

The 56-year-old has been charged with manufacturing a large commercial amount of banned drugs.

The 29-year-old was charged with participating in the production of a large commercial quantity of a banned drug.

After appearing in Sutherland’s local court on May 5, both men were denied bail.

They are due to appear in Downing Center local court on July 7.

Major investigations leading to the arrest were conducted by Strike Force McGeoch, which was set up in 2022 to curb drug trafficking in Sydney’s south.
