One man has died and another has been taken to hospital after a serious crash stopped traffic in both directions on the Sydney Harbor Bridge.
Emergency services received reports of a multi-vehicle accident on the bridge at around 1.40pm on Thursday and discovered that three cars and a bus had collided.
NSW Police confirmed one man tragically died at the scene while another was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
All lanes in both directions were closed before a rescue helicopter landed on the bridge shortly after 2 p.m.
Paramedics remain on scene while they evaluate “other patients.”
Fortunately, the bus had no passengers on board and the driver was able to escape unharmed.
Cars stopped on the bridge as traffic slowly entered the only open lane traveling northbound.
Travelers have been warned to “avoid the area and use an alternative route if possible.”
“Sydney Harbor Tunnel remains open in both directions but traffic is heavy,” Live Traffic NSW posted on X.
