Crowds braving extreme weather conditions in Perth, Australia, were treated to a doubly dazzling display in the city’s skies.
An estimated 250,000 people turned out to watch the 28th annual Australia Day fireworks display in the Western Australian city, despite fears that weather conditions could disrupt the event.
The sky was illuminated not only with fireworks but also with spectacular lightning bolts that occurred in conjunction with the organized shows.

High temperatures during the day and the threat of a major storm at night threatened to keep spectators away.
But although crowd numbers were smaller than last year’s event, crowds flocked to the Esplanade, South Perth Beach and Kings Park to watch this year’s fireworks.
For those who defied the conditions, the reward was spectacular.
One reveler said the display was “absolutely fantastic, worth getting wet for.”
