Travelers in Australia have been warned to prepare for possible “disruptions” at airports across the country, with more than 1,000 workers set to go on strike.
Ground workers are expected to walk off the job on Friday as they carry out four-hour walkouts related to wage negotiations that have reached a critical point.
“Today there will be interruptions. “You can’t take a thousand people off road services in Australia without disruption,” Transport Workers Union national secretary Michael Kaine said.
“These workers have been deadlocked in negotiations for a year and still have no guarantees of decent terms and conditions,” he said.
Sydney Airport has advised passengers to check with their airline for any potential delays.
“We stand ready to support our airline partners to mitigate the impact on their operations and encourage passengers traveling today to remain alert to their airline’s messaging,” a spokeswoman said.
