A Swiss doctor died after his vehicle crashed into a giraffe while on safari.

The man who was named Robert L, 66 in Swiss media, was on safari in the Kruger National Park in South Africa when a minibus pushed a giraffe into the path of his safari camper van.

The man was flown to the hospital and doctors in South Africa competed to save the man for three days, but have now confirmed that he has died in the hospital intensive care unit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Robert L from Thurgau, Switzerland, had traveled with his wife to South Africa, where they had rented a Ford Ranger motorhome to go on safari.

The accident happened when a giraffe crossed the road and was hit by a minibus taxi with 13 people. The 18-foot-long giraffe, which weighed around 1,650 pounds, completely crushed the front of the bus before it struck the roof and front of the Swiss Ranger's Ford Ranger motorhome.

Robert L was completely crushed by the animal. His wife escaped with minor injuries.

Connie Oosthuizen who was at the scene of the accident said: & I saw the scene of the accident and saw a man lying on the road with a group of people around him. The giraffe lay dead in the neighborhood.

The South African police believe that the taxi driver drove too fast and did not adhere to the speed limits.

The police confirmed that he was charged with death by dangerous driving.
