Swedish star Dejan Kulusevski has tested positive for COVID-19 just six days before their Euro 2020 opener against Spain.

Kulusevski told medical staff on Tuesday morning that he had cold symptoms and was immediately tested for coronavirus, but had isolated himself from the rest of the squad and stayed in Stockholm while the rest of the group traveled on to Gothenburg.

However, a now-deleted video posted on Twitter this afternoon appears to show the 21-year-old Juventus star reportedly attending a party with friends, days before Sweden’s friendly win over Armenia on Saturday.

Sweden’s first European Championship match is against Spain in Seville on Monday, but the Spanish squad is also currently mired in COVID-related issues.

The entire squad is in self-isolation after captain Sergio Busquets tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday, while the Under-21 squad will play in an international friendly against Lithuania tonight.

Regarding Kulusevski, Swedish team doctor Anders Valentin told the website of the Swedish Football Association: “This morning Dejan Kulusevski told the medical team that he had cold symptoms.

‘Dejan was immediately tested and the test was positive.

“Dejan has since been kept isolated from the rest of the group and has not traveled with us to Gothenburg.”

While the winger will now certainly miss his side’s opening game against Spain on Monday as he goes through a period of self-isolation, coach Janne Andersson said no reserve would be called up.

“It is extremely unfortunate that it (the virus) has entered (in our camp). It’s sad for Dejan and sad in general,” Andersson told a news conference.

“It’s impossible to get rid of – it creates some concern, while at the same time we are coping with it as it should, and I have faith in our doctors.”

Sweden is in Group E at Euro 2020, alongside Slovakia, Poland and Spain.
