Suzanne Somers and her husband Alan Hamel have been married for over 44 years, but their sex life is not slowing down. The 74-year-old Three’s Company Alum is hardly shy about talking about her hot and raging romance with her 85-year-old husband, routinely making headlines for releasing candid details about their bedroom antics. Now the Step-by-step star talks about keeping things afloat as a senior in the first episode of her three-part Yahoo Life series, “Unapologetically Suzanne”.
“I chose the right husband. I believe he chose the right woman. We are incredibly happy and safe together,” Somers told Yahoo Life. “He’s everything to me. I like to please him. And that makes me feel really sexy when I’m pleasing him and the same with him in front of me.”
Somers, who has spoken extensively about how she believes hormone therapy has positively impacted her well-being, shares that it has also helped her sex life.
“I can’t emphasize sex enough,” she continues. ‘My husband is on hormones. He’s been taking hormones, testosterone replacement, for 25 years. He’s in the mood, I’m in the mood. Are we always in the mood? New! But a lot of the time. And if not, there’s another hormone I’m on called oxytocin, the love and sex hormone that makes you feel very loving, but I don’t even need it.”
What makes Somers feel sexy in her 70s? It’s mostly self confidence.
“I like who I am, I like how I look,” she says. “I take good care of myself. When I walk down the hall to my husband naked, I know he just really enjoys looking at me.”
Still, sometimes you have to get out of the house to really get in the mood, she explains.
“We go out on a real date twice a week because I just like getting dressed,” Somers says. “I put on my high heels and a cocktail dress and he usually puts on his cool black tights and black shirt and white tuxedo jacket. I like the way we look together. We go out and drink a cocktail and a delicious dinner and listen to the tinkling music. And we live a very romantic, sexy life.”
As for that time they told Jillian Barberie on her podcast she and Hamel had sex three times a day? Well it’s not each day.
“We had sex three times a day, one day. I spoke to Jillian Barberie on her podcast and she said, ‘Is it true? You have sex twice a day?’ And I went, ‘Well, today it was three.'”
Age, she says, is nothing but a number when it comes to a person’s sex life.
“The biggest misconception people have about sex over 70 is that you don’t have sex anymore,” she adds. “And most of the 70-year-olds I know have regular sex.”
