Wildcard is giving Ark: Survival Evolved a paid upgrade in Unreal Engine 5. However, the announcement of Ark: Survival Ascended has caused criticism from players.
Ark 2 is being postponed, but Ark: Survival Evolved is getting it a remaster in the Unreal Engine 5 with the new title Survival Ascended
. That’s pretty good news…isn’t it?
UE5 upgrade with multiple hooks
Content: What does Survival Ascended offer?
Ark: Survival Ascended is primarily an upgrade from Ark: Survival Evolved in Unreal Engine 5. In addition to better graphics and technology, the new version should also offer the following features – as in the official blog post the developer emerges.
- Cross-platform multiplayer and modding
- revised assets
- revised in-game events
- new content, Quality of Life improvements, and gameplay and balance adjustments such as an overhauled mini-map, a new third-person camera, improved sprinting and running, a ping system, and more
Release: When will Survival Ascended be released?
The release of the UE5 upgrade is for Aug 2023 planned for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is currently no specific date.
By the way: The full-fledged sequel to the survival hit is a little longer in coming. The release of Ark 2 has been postponed to the end of 2024 – you can read more about it here:
Price: How much is Survival Ascended?
The new version of the first Ark alone costs around 40 eurosin combination with Ark 2 about 50 euros. Those who already own and play Ark: Survival Evolved cannot upgrade to the UE5 remaster for free.
This includes except for The Island, Survival of the Fittest and all non-canon
-Maps, by the way, not all DLCs included. If you also want to play the rest with Survival Ascended, you have to pay around 20 euros each for two different passes (Explorer’s and Genesis), i.e. a total of 40 euros.
Ark 1: What’s Happening to Survival Evolved?
The original Ark servers are going offlineonce Survival Ascended launches. So at least Wildcard pulls the plug on the multiplayer of Survival Evolved for the release of the paid upgrade. If you don’t want to continue playing alone and in solo mode and aren’t already on private servers, you should plan to move as soon as possible.
On social networks such as Reddit this announcement causes little enthusiasm. In the eyes of the players, there are simply too many negative factors summed up here to approve of Wildcard’s decision regarding Survival Evolved and Survival Ascended.
Above all, one accusation is made against Wildcard: Here you want to ask loyal players twice to pay and offer too little for too much money. It remains to be seen whether the general headwind in the Ark player forums might cause the developer studio to rethink.
