Two people have died in a devastating factory fire.

Emergency services were called on Friday morning to control the fire in Melbourne’s west.

The single-story factory on Bunnett Street in Sunshine North was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Two people who were inside at the time died at the scene.

The couple has not yet been formally identified.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said around 50 firefighters with 12 trucks responded to the incident.

“(Fire Rescue Victoria) attacked the fire from above, while crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out an internal attack to contain the fire to the factory,” the spokesperson said.

“The incident has been deemed suspicious and Victoria Police have established a crime scene.”

An alert message was issued due to the large amount of smoke in the area.

The alert requested that residents in the nearby area be informed around 5 in the morning.

Crews managed to control the fire around 7:00 a.m.

Police remained at the scene while investigating the circumstances of the fire.

The cause is yet to be determined.
