Nicole initially played the role of Norma when it opened in London last year, while West End legend Rachel Tucker was her understudy.

Last month, the singer raved that she “could barely believe” she had the opportunity to perform on Broadway for the first time.

‘Little Nicole has been waiting for this her whole life. And I get to do it with this beautiful cast @sunsetblvdmusical and these two heroes of mine @andrewlloydwebber @jamielloyd,” he wrote on Instagram.

Nicole recently admitted that despite her success in theater, she initially felt “discarded” by the industry after her pop career.

she said People: ‘I am (46) years old. I have never been stronger, physically, mentally and emotionally. I’m at my best. There is no better time to create work that is meaningful in this world.

‘That’s the tragedy: that you are in the best place of your life. You’re so full, you have so much to give, and people have written you off, fired you, and said, ‘Your time is up…’

Nicole then insisted her “lifelong dream” has been to get on The Great White Way, which comes after appearances on shows including Cats and Rent since her pop heyday.

Nicole’s new role marked her return to the stage, eight years after she was nominated for an Olivier Award for her performance as Grizabella in Cats.

Their musical comeback was heralded as a success by Daily Mail critic Luke Jones, who gave it a five-star review.

It said: “The classically romantic score remains, melting into a slightly clumsy plot about a lonely, deluded silent movie star who ensnares a young writer named Joe, so he can polish his comeback script.” Over the course of two and a half hours, she loses her mind and he loses his life.

‘Director Jamie Lloyd, who has been hard at work on his stripped-down, moody revival style for years, has finally hit the mark. No fancy costumes or intricate sets. Just live camera work, a ferociously big star, and an even bigger band.

‘The lighting is almost exclusively bright white, which designer Jack Knowles takes advantage of in the most magical way. Tap, hide and reveal, using the thick fog on the stage.

“What dominates the view, however, is a huge screen, offering us eerie live close-ups of the actors in front of us… melodramatic stares, fluttering eyelashes, and large bulbous tears. Scherzinger even offers an angry look over the top of the screen. shoulder to the end of the body.

‘It’s a perfect combination of psychological trauma and camp. Think Pinter, with a lively brass section and expressive dancing. Or opera, if it were visible. Norma’s drama is set in what seems like a real world.’

He continued: “Scherzinger will rightly receive a low-charge film full of awards, but so should his co-star Tom Francis, as poor Joe. Both are vocally impeccable. Both deftly balance the histrionic and the genuinely heartbreaking, the playful and the raw

‘They receive their bows dripping with fake blood and genuine, hard-earned sweat.

‘Nicole Scherzinger nails it right from the start. Any doubts I had about a Pussycat Doll playing Hollywood’s answer to Miss Havisham soon disappeared.

“On the first tune, With One Look, Scherzinger, as the powerful Norma Desmond, rips off her sunglasses and, in a tornado of stage haze and hot spotlights, roars with a deafening roar.

The room jumped to its feet. The fading pop star becomes a fading movie icon, all the way to dramatic perfection! I gasped, losing a mouthful of gin and tonic on my shirt.

‘Forget Billy Wilder’s original hammy noir and the lavish productions of this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical we’re used to. Here’s an excitingly fresh and surprisingly dark revival.

“For my money (and for a good seat bring a wheelbarrow) this is the show of the year.”
