Sunrise host Natalie Barr confessed she misses her children “a lot” after she and her husband became empty nesters this year.

The Channel Seven presenter, 56, shares two sons with her husband Andrew Thompson: Hunter, 18, and Andrew, 22.

Barr said she would drive to Canberra to visit her youngest son on Mother’s Day after he moved to the country’s capital to attend university.

“I’m going to Canberra (for a day); just spending time with your kids (is gift enough),” he told Sunrise on Friday morning.

‘Miss them a lot. I’m going to see my little one.

“I also go to the Coffee Club with other mums, which is fantastic.”

Barr spoke candidly about how she and her husband had become empty nesters after Hunter moved away for college earlier this year.

“I still don’t feel the new chapter,” he said. stellar magazine in March.

‘The first left several years ago and is at the university in Melbourne and the second left a few weeks ago. He went to Canberra University.

‘We packed the car, took it, said goodbye and came back crying our eyes out. I think we were mourning the period of our lives that has already passed forever because it is their childhood (which is already over).

“You say all the right things: you have all this freedom, you can do whatever you want, it’s a new beginning for you.” But I still don’t feel it. I honestly feel sad.

In February, Barr wrote that her house had fallen silent after years of “noise, sweat and baby smell” in an article about motherhood for 7News.

Barr said he missed

Barr said she missed her two children “a lot” after they moved out of the family home to study.

Natalie joined Seven’s breakfast show as a news presenter in 2003 and was promoted to co-presenter in 2021 following the departure of Sam Armytage.

Her husband Andrew is an Oscar-nominated film and television editor, best known for his short film The Eleven O’Clock. The couple married in 1995.
