Suki Waterhouse has admitted that her previous relationships in her twenties were “sadistic” and based solely on “fetishisation”.
The 32-year-old actress began dating current partner Robert Pattinson in 2018 and the couple welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, in April this year.
But appearing with her little girl in the cover of the August issue of British VogueSuki admitted that before finding love with the 38-year-old actor, she had been ‘punished’ in her past relationships.
The singer said she gained more “respect” once she turned 30 and admitted it took her “a decade to discover myself.”
She said: ‘Your 20s were pretty sadistic. The love I experienced (back then) was just a fetishization, and I think when you’re only loved that way, you’re just getting punished.

But in the August issue of British Vogue, Suki admitted that before finding love with the actor, 38, she had been “punished” in her past relationships (pictured, aged 25, in 2017).
“When you hit 30, you’re almost immediately treated with a little more respect. It’s both charming and shocking at the same time.”
Talking about the aftermath of a previous heartbreak, Suki confessed: ‘I will actually say that I’m pretty strong right now, but when something very public happens to you and the story behind it is dark and difficult, and you’re not really doing well and you can’t explain yourself to the world, that’s very isolating and disorienting.
Admitting the effect this had on her, she added: ‘It probably took me a decade to discover myself and really be able to have this expansion in my life.
“If you had told him then that this was where he would be now, he wouldn’t have believed you.”
Suki previously dated British musician Miles Kane, 38, from 2011 to 2013, beginning when she was 19 and he was 25.
At the age of 20, she had a two-year relationship with Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, who was 17 years her senior.
The model was then linked to actor and director Diego Luna, 44, 12 years her senior, from 2015 to 2017.
However, rather than regretting her previous heartbreak, Suki insisted she “wouldn’t accept anything in return” and said her experiences had led her to find Robert.

She said: ‘I wouldn’t want to change anything. All these chaotic paths my life has taken, they were always material.
‘It’s led me to a really pure love and a life that now… I wake up in the morning feeling really good. I’ll probably fall back at some point, that’s how it works.
“But you carry your scars and if you can take them and turn them into something and share them, then that’s the best.”
She also hinted that some of her exes had gotten what they deserved, saying: “Sometimes you’re going to get an unfair beating, but usually there’s some sort of karmic retribution, which is what I’ve definitely found with certain people. You see their narrative play out and you’re like, ‘Haha, now everyone else knows you’re shit.'”

But last year, Suki gave a rare insight into her romance, admitting: ‘I’m surprised I’ve been so happy with someone for almost five years.
“I always get so excited when I see his name (on my phone) or even a text message, and I think he feels the same way about me. We always have so much to say and I find it hilarious.”
After welcoming her daughter three months ago, Suki praised the support Robert had provided and what a wonderful father he was.
