Scottie Scheffler just became the first golfer to win the Players Championship again and thanked his wife, Meredith, for her support at home.

Scheffler won, narrowly avoiding the playoff when Wyndham Clark’s birdie putt on the 18th hole somehow fell apart.

When asked how he approaches the game mentally, Scheffler says he doesn’t feel his ego inflated and that his family helps him keep his feet on the ground.

“This environment here where everything is recorded, I think it can be difficult to be 100 percent honest all the time,” Scheffler said. “You have to be careful not to want to say bad things these days.”

“But at the end of the day, I think it’s all about the support system at home. I really have a great support system. I’m very grateful for that.

“I have a great wife and if I started taking my trophies and putting them all over the house and walking around, I think she would hit me on the side of the head and tell me to get over it. quickly.

“So winning golf tournaments definitely doesn’t give me any points at home, so I’m just trying to do my best.”

Scheffler’s career is currently at its peak – having won two consecutive events on this PGA Tour schedule.

Just last week at Bay Hill, Scheffler beat Clark again (this time by five strokes) to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The next stop on the PGA Tour’s so-called “Florida Swing” is the Valspar Championship at the Copperhead Course – with the Masters just around the corner.

Scheffler could become only the second player to win the Players and Masters in the same year if he succeeds at Augusta – joining Tiger Woods in rarefied air.
