Subway, the sometimes beloved, sometimes controversial sandwich mega chain, is facing criticism on TikTok after someone posted a video appearing to be preparing the steak used to make sandwiches.
The account @howfoodismade posted a video last week showing the method used by workers to prepare subway meat for serving.
The clip has already accumulated 8.8 million views and thousands of comments, many of them from surprised and disgusted users.
In the video, titled “How We Make Steak on the Subway,” an employee opens a clear plastic bag of ground beef and pours its contents into a large container, before proceeding to mix it by hand.
Once the soft-looking meat is “stirred,” the employee divides it by hand into smaller containers, each weighing 2.5 ounces.
The comments section of the viral video lit up with horrified comments, some even coming from former Subway workers.
“I worked at Subway and I still have nightmares about making teriyaki chicken,” one person said.
“I promise you making tuna is worse,” another former employee wrote.
‘Thank you for this information, my brother. Jersey Mikes, it is,” another viewer wrote, advocating a shift in loyalty toward Subway’s direct competitor.
The official Eggo Waffle account also weighed in, saying, “I will never recover from this.”
Others said it’s essentially the fault of anyone who goes to Subway and orders a steak because they expect something different than what’s shown in the video.
