- Stuttgart star Silas was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for 2020-21
- But the Congolese striker plays football under a false name and age
- Silas’ real last name is Katompa Mvumpa and not Wamangituka and he is 22, not 21
- Stuttgart says Silas was pressured by an agent to change his details
- The German side is only now aware of this and does not expect any sanctions sanction
VfB Stuttgart player Silas Wamangituka, who was recently named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season, is playing under a false name and age this season, his club has announced.
It has been revealed that the Congolese attacker’s actual name is Silas Katompa Mvumpa and is 22 years old, not 21 as previously understood.
Stuttgart has alleged that Silas was pressured by an agent in Paris to change his name to claim a European visa and earn a move to RSC Anderlecht.

The attacker has scored 11 times for the Bundesliga this season to win Rookie of the Season
The attacker did not end up playing for the Belgian side, but did spend two seasons with France’s Paris FC under the assumed name, before moving to Stuttgart at the start of the 2019-20 season and impressing in Germany.
In a statement on the Stuttgart official websiteSilas said: ‘Over the past few years I have lived in constant fear and also very worried about my family in Congo.
“It was a tough step for me to make my story public and I would never have had the courage to do it if Stuttgart, my team and VfB hadn’t become like a second home and a safe place for me.”
Stuttgart recently claimed to have been made aware of this information and has vowed to ensure that the situation is “handled properly from now on”. The Bundesliga club does not expect sanctions and Silas has a new agent.
Silas is actually 22, not 21, with his real last name Katompa Mvumpa – not Wamangituka
The 22-year-old helped Stuttgart reach the Bundesliga in his first season with the club and improved his goalscoring figures in the 2020-21 season.
Silas scored 11 goals and provided five assists as Die Roten finished ninth in their first season back in the German top flight.
While Stuttgart confirmed that Wamangituka was not Silas’ real last name, it was one of the player’s surnames through his father.
A statement from the club said: “Silas was under the influence of the agent who cut off part of his wages and threatened him never to play football again if the case ever went public.
Stuttgart says the player was pressured by an agent to change his name to earn a visa
“After building a relationship of trust in Stuttgart and gradually distancing himself from his agent, Silas fought his great fears of that man, made his situation known to the club and decided to change agents.
“Thanks to his great efforts to clarify the situation, Silas now has a valid Congolese passport with his correct personal details.”
Stuttgart sports director Sven Mislintat, who had a similar role at Arsenal under the Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery governments, added: “First of all, Silas has been the victim of this name change.
“I have the utmost respect for the fact that he took the courageous step at a young age to clarify his situation. We will continue to give him all the help he needs in every way.”
