Pushed by a man armed with a hammer as he left his building with his dog, Nicholas Cameron “fought for his life”.
When police arrived six minutes later, they found the 39-year-old man fatally injured between two cars and arrested his attacker, Stuart Lindsay Heron, who was trying to leave the scene.
Heron claimed he spent hours waiting to confront Mr Cameron, a man he did not know, after seeing him ‘handing out ice cream to the children’.
But two files, one entitled “target” and the other “Heide”, would make it possible to identify the real reason for which he was assassinated.
Heron, 50, returned to the Supreme Court of Victoria on Monday for a pre-sentencing hearing after pleading guilty to murdering Mr Cameron on July 10, 2021 earlier this year.
Outlining the case, Crown Prosecutor Elizabeth Ruddle KC told the court that Heron was enlisted by her dominatrix, Heide Bos, to “confront” her boyfriend, Mr Cameron.

Ms Ruddle said Bos and Heron had met on FetLife, a social networking site for people exploring sexual issues, just two months earlier.
Bos was called “hedonistic siren” and Heron, who was called “pinto slave”, had quickly gotten into a dominant/submissive relationship.
Heron became his slave, telling Bos; “I’ll be your slave for life ma’am,” when she began to confide in him about her dislike of Mr Cameron.
She will later tell the police; “They’re below you and (their), like, happiness is your happiness, so whatever they can do to make your life simpler, easier, whatever.”
On or about June 31, the couple were at Ms Bos’ flat when she asked if it was possible to confront Mr Cameron and get him out of town.
“I’m 99.9% sure I can convince him to never contact or talk to you again ma’am lol,” Heron replied.

The court was told Heide Victoria Bos (pictured) was in a ‘volatile’ on-and-off relationship with Mr Cameron
Over the next few days he tracked Mr Cameron at his home and online, with police finding plans for his flat and photos in a folder labeled ‘target’ on his phone.
In a separate folder titled “Heide” were screenshots of their conversations.
Ms Ruddle told the court on July 9 that Bos gave Heron the green light after an argument with Mr Cameron.
She texted Mr. Cameron asking him to come over while simultaneously telling Heron; “I wish I could come and watch.”
As Mr Cameron was leaving his flat with his dog, Misty, shortly after midnight on July 10, he was rushed by Heron.
‘There was an agreement between Mr Heron and Ms Bos that he would confront and assault Mr Cameron in some sort of ill-conceived plan to get him to leave and stay away,’ Ms Ruddle said.
“But at some point, just before or during the confrontation, that plan went awry.”

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, Nicholas Cameron was pronounced dead at the scene

Victoria Heide Bos was jailed for six years after pleading guilty to manslaughter for her role in the death
Ms Ruddle told the court that the injuries sustained by Mr Cameron, which included 14 separate skull fractures, were ‘among the most distressing’ she had ever seen.
“He goes to the scene to assault, he is armed and he takes him by surprise,” she said.
“Mr. Cameron fought for his life…what he did that day in the parking lot is inexplicable.”
Heron’s attorney, Richard Backwell, told the court his client had led a “normal life” until he met Bos.
“There’s really nothing, other than when he gets involved with Ms Bos, that indicates he would eventually sit where he sits,” he said.
“He planned a confrontational assault and brought weapons with him… There is no doubt that this is a serious example of murder, given the number of blows to the head and stab wounds. “
Mr Blackwell told the court his client, a former diesel mechanic, had described what happened as the ‘worst decision’ of his life.
Heron has been taken into custody and will be sentenced at a later date.
Heide Bos, who was also initially charged with murder, was jailed for six years in February after pleading guilty to manslaughter for her role in Mr Cameron’s death after prosecutors admitted she did not know not that he was going to be killed.
