A struggling artist has revealed how he turned a simple side job into an income of almost $10,000 a month.
When sales of his artwork slowed in 2021, Kyle Stockford turned to gig site TaskRabbit to make ends meet.
Using his Chevy Express van, he decided to become an independent mover, charging people up to $98 an hour to move their furniture.
talking to CNBCStockford said he came up with the idea after realizing he owned the massive vehicle, “but wasn’t making any money from it.”
The 29-year-old invested “probably about $50 in supplies” such as heavy-duty blankets, gloves and straps, and then began moving furniture in Boston.

Stockford quickly realized that big jobs were harder and less lucrative, so he focused on smaller jobs, like shuttling college students into their dorms and making deliveries on Facebook Marketplace.
“You know what to expect after a while,” he told CNBC.
“It’s pretty much the same group of furniture and the same couple of garbage bags with clothes.”
He also stated that customer service is key to gaining an advantage over the competition.
“I started to realize how stressful it can be for people to move,” she explained.
Stockford revealed that his biggest month was August 2023, where he raised a whopping $9,740.
But he’s far from the first person to start cleaning up concert venues.
Aspiring actress Vanessa Garcia, from Los Angeles, decided to sign up for TaskRabbit in 2017 on the recommendation of a friend.
Stockford quickly realized that big jobs were harder and less lucrative, so he focused on smaller jobs, such as shuttling college students into their dormitories.
“I thought it was incredible that you could get paid to put together IKEA furniture,” the 30-year-old said. Go to bank fees.
“Once I signed up for TaskRabbit, I discovered you could do so much more: from personal assistant work to event planning and staffing.”
Over the years, Vanessa has expanded her repertoire, advertising an ever-expanding range of services to her potential clients.
“I offer 25 different skills in the app,” Garcia said. ‘These range from personal assistant work to project coordination/management, organization, furniture assembly, event and entertainment staff, to name a few!’
Right now, their highest rate is for cleaning, just over $100 per hour, while their lowest rate is for “waiting in line,” which starts at $46.45 per hour.
“Any task, obviously, can be very well paid,” García explained.
‘Ultimately it would come down to the high quality of work you can produce. For my part, I can charge between $60 and $100 per hour for a task.’
