She discussed her culinary habits prior to her appearance on cooking show Cooking With The Stars, where she shared that her taste in food is “simple” and admitted that she would rather starve than eat a McDonald’s.

Shirley also admitted she had a “difficult” relationship with food because her ex-husband Corky Ballas had “something with weight” and would make her feel uncomfortable if she had a large portion.

In an interview with the Radio Times, the ballroom dancer explained her eating preferences, telling her she’d rather have a home-cooked meal than a takeaway.

She said: ‘I’ve never ordered anything – I’ve never done that Deliveroo thing – and I don’t eat fast food. I’d rather starve than eat a McDonalds.’

Shirley went on to say that during her childhood she ate healthy foods such as “meat, potatoes and vegetables,” while their evening meal was very regular with a Sunday roast and beans on toast on Thursdays.

She went on to say her family would have “egg and chips” on Fridays because they would “run out of money,” before describing her mother as a “regular Jane cook.”
